Mallory Cecil leaves Duke, turns pro

I am behind in announcing this. The last time I read an interview with Mallory Cecil, she said she thought she would stay in school. However, she has departed Duke University and turned professional. Cecil, as a freshman, won the NCAA singles championship this year (and was part of the championship team), and, after that, said she would take a few months to consider the course of her future. Cecil was the top female collegiate tennis recruit in the U.S. last year.

The South Carolina native received a wild card into the 2009 Family Circle Cup, but was defeated in the first round by Virginie Razzano. She also received a wild card into the 2009 U.S. Open, but lost in the first round to Tathiana Garbin.

If it bothers you, well--it bothers me, too.
